There is simply no doubt about the massive impact of the internet on the world. The
concept of the World Wide Web gave businesses and consumers alike the ability to
communicate and exchange information without the physical limitations of distance.
Pasilda began with web development. It is our passion for producing online software
to the highest standards and with the most robust technologies that continues to drive
us today. All of our developers are masters in their fields, with over 10 years
experience in web development, and counting! We truly subscribe to the belief that being
an expert starts with the knowledge that there is always more to learn; which is why we
are committed to continually improving our skills and actively encouraging our clients
to employ the latest advances in online technology.
The browser
From humble beginnings, the common web browser has meant that
standardisation across operating systems is now achievable; where previously
separate versions of the same application had to be re-written for each platform.
Specialists in all of the browser-based languages, our developers all write
the presentation layer of all of our online applications with raw or hand-coded
HyperText Markup Language (HTML), cascading style sheets (CSS) and ECMAScript
(more commonly known as JavaScript). Our developers are as able to write code
in a simple text editor, such as Notepad, as they are in any of the industry's
go-to web development tools, such as Adobe® Dreamweaver® or Microsoft
Visual Studio®. Whether your audience uses Microsoft Internet Explorer®,
Mozilla FireFox®, Opera, Apple Safari® or even mobile platforms, we
can ensure your browser-based application looks and operates in exactly the
way you would expect.
In more recent years, HTML has been reformulated within the structure that
defines XML, and has become eXtensible HTML (XHTML); providing more
standardised and reliable alternative to HTML. Using XHTML as a base for many
of our web applications, we have been able to offer our clients richer and
easier ways to capitalise on their investment in bespoke software from Pasilda,
such as hybrid languages for their CMS or
rich syndication through XML and RSS.
The three pillars of delivering the internet to a user interface (HTML, CSS
and JavaScript) can be combined and extended to form what is described as
Dynamic HTML or DHTML. Using JavaScript to control HTML elements and their
related styles through CSS means that the interface first presented to a
browser may alter itself over time or in response to a user's actions. For
example, the ever popular image rollover - an image that changes as the mouse
is passed over it.
Further extension with JavaScript leads to Asynchronous JavaScript and XML,
or AJAX. This is the programming model that has transformed the web and many
online applications in the last few years and led to the coining of the term
'Web 2.0'. AJAX enables modern browsers send and receive data without
refreshing the entire page. Combined with DHTML, AJAX can process the user's
action, contact the web server and display the response - all without the need
to rebuild or reload the page. This has meant that web applications can now
offer an immersive user interface, similar to that of desktop software.
The server
Whilst the browser presents an application's interface to the user, the
server runs the functionality behind the scenes.
Using the Microsoft tool set, our applications have relied upon the Active
Server Pages (ASP) programming model alongside the Visual Basic (VB)
programming language. We are constantly pushing our development forward to
keep abreast of evolving technology. Since Pasilda was established in 2001,
our online software has been built using classic ASP, and each new release of
the .NET framework (giving us ASP.NET and VB.NET) right up to present day,
where we are recommending the .NET framework 3.5 for all new build projects.
The ever-advancing .NET framework provides capabilities for rapid
development of n-tier applications, using an object-oriented programming model
which ensures our applications are fast, secure, reliable and scalable. Using
the .NET framework, the Microsoft Windows Server System™ and Microsoft
Internet Information Server (IIS) we are able to achieve all the needs of our
clients through the software we produce.
We have also worked on existing systems and integrated some of our new
build projects into systems outside of the scope of the Microsoft tool set.
Our developers have the combined experience to program in almost any language.
We have built applications from the ground up as well as amending existing
software written other popular programming languages for the web, such as PHP,
ColdFusion, Perl, Java and the Java Server Pages programming model.
Beyond
The internet has proven to be a melting pot of technology with an
unstoppable momentum that is continuously forcing the expansion of
technological capability and the operations of businesses across the planet.
It is, and always has been our intention to stay at the forefront of this
growth in order to be able to offer the latest technological advantage to our
clients.
We are currently exploring the potential of Microsoft Silverlight™,
eXtensible Application Markup Language (XAML) and XAML browser applications
(XBAP) for inclusion into our offerings for web application development. These
relatively new technologies promise advantages in rapid development and an
even greater depth of user interface functionality as well as integration with
server-side programmable components. Watch this space for further developments!
