Data syndication

Data syndication refers to new methods of distributing information and helps bring people and data closer together. Development in technology has lead to cleaner, more efficient and standardised means for syndicating data. The transmitting of information can happen across the internet or via other platforms such as mobiles or desktop solutions. RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) and an appropriate API (Application Programming Interface) are two popular forms of data syndication.

As a way of automating updateable content via the internet, RSS takes XML (Extensible Markup Language) data, which is a standardised format and provides a feed allowing your target users to gain immediate access to various forms of data including text, audio and video. Free from design and in a structured format, the XML file can move freely between applications. Other feeds include Atom and OPML (Outline Processor Markup Language). Comprehensive software integration allows a user to receive content through their email clients like Microsoft Outlook®, without the need to access a web site.

Utilise other forms of media sending content to desktop widgets and allow users to receive data on the go through mobile technology. An API also offers an innovative form of data syndication. Utilise other software to request data outside a web browser. The interface will sit on a users system and implement the receipt of data and how it is used.

As well as distributing large amounts of data quickly and efficiently, the link in the form of a widget or bookmarked feed remains readily accessible on the users' system. There are excellent advertising opportunities bringing information to a customer immediately via channels to which they have previously subscribed, side-stepping many preset filtering issues.
